My pathway to dōTERRA
My Career
I've always been a "lotions and potions" girl. As a very young child, I made my own creams using baby powder, vaseline, witch hazel, olive oil...I crushed plants and gravitated to anything with a scent. I started off my post-school education with a foundation in Graphic Design but shifted halfway through and ended up finding my passion in Marketing where I could combine my creativity with my strength in business skills, strategy and my love for fragrance and skincare. I became a lotions and potions creator.
Once I realized my strengths, I absolutely loved my work and immersed myself in it. I've worked with many oils - done research on African Indigenous oils and ingredients, Baobab oil, and have always had a deep connection with fragrance and a fascination in its ability to evoke memories, and impact moods.
20 years in the industry and I could write a book, but I'll keep this brief.
I love product Innovation and had a particular love for the new product development process. I am very lucky to have seen hundreds of products through from concept to market - a hugely satisfying and multi-tasking endeavour that wholeheartedly suits my creative nature and pioneering spirit. My career was just embarking on a very rewarding new portfolio when I fell sick and my life changed overnight. I continued to work for 18 months juggling my rehabilitation physiotherapy then after leaving full-time employment I kept my mind active and kept abreast with industry developments, and have done so ever since. Through my network, and personal interests I have kept my expertise current with industry trends and focused in on the aspects that I'm more passionate about. Working with dōTERRA's truly amazing oils has sparked a whole new dimension to my love of developing natural products that reduce the toxic load to our bodies and promote both physical and emotional delivery of benefits in proactive and preventive care.
A strength I can now offer my team of wellness advocates lies in my design and innovation skills, strategic insights and love of nature's bountiful offerings- I just love seeing every new team member as their own little "niche gem of a brand" - finding the essence and strengths of each individual then merging their personality and ethos with dōTERRA's varied opportunities and methodologies to create something that each person feels ideally represents them, combining that new "gem" with a goal and a plan and then nurturing it to take root and grow and bloom: this is something that fuels my soul!

FROM MARKETING MANAGER TO NETWORK MARKETER
then beyond into my own embodiment of leadership & innovative natural practices to restore and maintain wellness
I WAS NEVER KEEN ON NETWORK MARKETING
in fact, when I saw that part of dōTERRA's compensation plan involved MLM, I was gutted - can you believe that? I laugh about it today ...the fact was: I had no idea what it really entailed. Now that I understand it,
I believe the very generous well-structured dōTERRA Business plan to be the best business model out there - truly fair and empowering the individual for the work they do.
I NEVER imagined I would be involved with a network marketing business. In fact, it was something I strongly shied away from. I've never considered myself a salesperson - I'm a marketing person and prefer to innovate, create, launch and manage products than "sell" them.
I had no interest in pressuring my friends and, being physically challenged, I'm not an "out there" social type where I'm exposed to many people on a daily or even weekly basis, in fact, I often go for three to four weeks without leaving our little farm in the Kwa Zulu Natal Midlands.
But, as a "traditional marketer" with 20 years of experience in the skincare, haircare and healthcare industries in South Africa, and a particular passion for fragrance and natural products, I know a good thing when I see it. And the core of it all is that it's a PRODUCT BASED BUSINESS MODEL with an absolutely phenomenal residual rate.
dōTERRA's residual rate of 65%
I came across dōTERRA Essential Oils at a time in my life when everything was at rather a "stalemate" - I had put my little hobby / business on ice when I had my third child, Quinn in 2016 and with all the adjustments, opted to just ensure that I kept stress levels low and refrain from too much to-and-fro between suppliers and producers.
This "vacuum" phase got me thinking about what I love, what I'm passionate about and what I would like to share with the world and how I might contribute meaningfully to the lives of others. I had a list:
1 - share my wellness journey with others and support others on their road to recovery and wellness
2 -provide natural solutions by becoming some form of wellness practitioner
3 - rediscover my passion for fragrance, my fine-tuned "nose" and the fascination of the power of fragrance to evoke emotions
4 - combine my prior career experiences to make whatever I do a success
5 - whatever I do, be passionate about it: I have to have "the fire ignited"
I started with the idea of creating diffuser blends for homes and presenting them in an interior style that was Scandanavian minimalist with an African flair. I started my online search for the oils I wanted to work with. I found dōTERRA and I fell in love, and the rest as they say "is history."
Once I began using the oils, I quickly realized that they were very helpful in reducing the burden of my medical condition and complications. This ignited my personal desire to help others who struggle with ongoing health conditions. I know what it's like to live day in and day out struggling with discomfort. I began to do my own "serious" research into the products. Once I saw how amazing these products actually are, I realized that I could be a force for good by starting my own dōTERRA business.
And now I understand the compensation plan (a very generous one by market standards) I completely "get" why dōTERRA chose this very empowering business model. Now I couldn't imagine it working any other way! It's extremely fair, and while it's by no means a "get rich quick" opportunity, it's a hugely profitable, step by step, established and refined business model that will prove successful for those who take it as a business and are prepared to work at it. I've seen it working and it's real!
My dōTERRA business ticks all my "must-have" boxes and has ignited a huge desire to connect with others and share in their journeys by helping them find wellness as well as fulfilment and prosperity. I want to lead and coach others that have physical and health limitations to create a sense of freedom - from the debilitating factors, from the ongoing emotional upheaval as well as the financial limitations that long term illness imposes.
I feel as if every hardship I've endured has brought me to this place where I am able to contribute to a better world. I'm enriched through my association with dōTERRA and the oils and I feel fulfilled and hugely inspired to follow a purposeful life. I hope I can inspire many self empowered individuals to join me in living their best life.
Make your life the vacation you've been dreaming of!
"When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds;
your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be."
